I was asked to assist several local seniors that had stabilized after hospital stays and rehabilitation during November and December. It's deeply gratifying, to say the least, to find the right living situation and quality care for my clients. The ability to positively impact these individuals welfare is exactly why I got into this line of work earlier this year. The peace of mind we have been able to provide family members during the holidays is meaningful. All of the administration experts and caregivers at The Rawlin Memory Care, Churchill Estates Retirement Community, Fox Hollow Residential Care, Woodside Senior Living, Prestige Senior Living, and Timber Pointe Assisted Living have been professional and loving to my clients. I marvel at their dedication, skill and compassion when they care for our loved ones. I've noticed that some clients are suspicious of senior living communities, regardless of whether it's Memory Care, Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing. Certainly there can be legitimate reasons for skepticism given personal experiences we share and scandals in the news, let alone the delicate nature of geriatric medicine. I would just like to reiterate how dedicated, loving and skilled the vast majority of the palliative care professionals are. This is not easy work, especially for the caregivers. I appreciate that our senior communities are fairly compensated for performing this work, but I try to put myself in their shoes to understand things. For instance, the grief that the staff, residents, and families share when a senior passes away is profound. The close relationships that the staff develop with many of their residents are equally special. Most every staff member comes to work each day attempting to better their residents lives, even just a little bit. It could be a warm smile, providing timely care, solving an issue for the resident, or explaining why certain protocols are in place. It can also be simply being there to listen when a resident is living their best life or dealing with pain or loss. To put it simply, I continue to find that our local senior living communities are staffed with heroes. Let's continue to thank and recognize them for their gift of service this holiday.
